Description
The John Rylands Research Institute and Library is a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic architecture located on Deansgate in Manchester. Founded by Enriqueta Rylands in memory of her husband, John Rylands, the library opened to the public in 1900. It houses one of the world's most significant collections of rare books, manuscripts, and archives, including the earliest known fragment of the New Testament, the St John Fragment. Now part of the University of Manchester, the library serves as both a research facility and a public museum, offering free admission to visitors.
Beyond its rich history, the library is a peaceful yet awe-inspiring space where people often strike up conversations over shared curiosity. Whether you’re a student, a tourist, or just a curious mind, it’s a great place to meet like-minded individuals who appreciate knowledge, heritage, and quiet moments of connection in a stunning setting. A cafe is also available on site.
